Bilibili (B站) is China's largest video platform — a YouTube equivalent with hundreds of millions of users, a massive archive of anime, music, tech tutorials, vlogs, and the famous danmaku (弹幕) flying-comments overlay. Outside China, Bilibili is the go-to source for Chinese-language content, anime that isn't on Western platforms, and creator communities that don't exist elsewhere.
This guide covers how to download Bilibili videos as MP4 files, with notes on geographic restrictions, danmaku handling, and account requirements.

The fast version

  1. Open the Bilibili video, copy the URL.
  2. Open SaveFast.cc.

Bilibili URL formats

You'll see videos with these URL patterns:

  • bilibili.com/video/BV1xxxxxxxx — the modern BV-ID format.

  • bilibili.tv/play/123/456 — Bilibili Global (international version) URLs.

Downloading on Desktop

  1. Open the Bilibili video in your browser.
  2. Copy the URL from the address bar.

For anime or long-form content split across parts, downloading each separately is necessary. Bilibili doesn't allow batch-downloading of all parts in one request.

Quality requires login (sometimes)

Bilibili restricts higher-quality tiers (1080p+, 4K) to logged-in users with verified accounts. If you can't download in HD:

  1. Log into Bilibili in your browser.
  2. Confirm you can play the HD tier in the player itself.
  3. Then try the download — SaveFast uses your browser's session.

Non-account users typically max out at 720p or 1080p.

Audio extraction

For Bilibili music content (and the platform has a lot of music), use the MP3 option on the SaveFast results page. Audio extracts at source bitrate — typically 128-192 kbps for standard videos, sometimes higher for music-focused uploads.

Danmaku (弹幕) comments

Bilibili's signature feature is danmaku — flying comments overlaid on the video. When you download:

  • Default: you get the clean video without danmaku.
  • Danmaku as separate file: Bilibili stores danmaku as XML files separately. Third-party tools can fetch the danmaku XML and burn it into the video, but SaveFast keeps them separate.

For most uses, the clean MP4 without danmaku is what you want — danmaku is best experienced live on Bilibili anyway.

Geo-restrictions

Some content on Bilibili (specifically licensed anime, music videos, paid content) is geo-restricted to China or specific Asian regions. If you can't view the video in your browser due to location:

  • Try the international Bilibili (bilibili.tv) — often has different licensing.
  • Use a VPN with a China or Hong Kong endpoint — then SaveFast can access what your browser accesses.

The international site is generally less restrictive but has a smaller catalog.

Paid premium content

Bilibili has a premium tier ("大会员") with exclusive content. SaveFast can access premium content only if you're logged in as a premium user. For non-premium accounts, premium content shows preview thumbnails but no playable stream — and SaveFast can't fetch what doesn't exist for your account.

Common issues

"Video not available in your region." Geo-restricted content. Use VPN or try the international site.
"Login required." The video is members-only or premium-only. Log in and retry.
Audio is in the wrong language. Some Bilibili videos have multi-language audio tracks (Chinese + Japanese for anime). SaveFast typically picks the default — usually Mandarin. If you need a specific track, the higher-tier download often includes language options.
Video plays but won't download. Likely a DRM-protected premium video. Not downloadable without bypassing DRM.

Privacy and reuse

Downloads are invisible to Bilibili's analytics. Creator view counts are unaffected.
Bilibili has a strong creator culture (the equivalent of being a YouTube content creator there). Reposting Bilibili creators' work to YouTube or other Western platforms without credit is a frequent gripe in the community.
