All of these eventually disappear — VODs typically vanish after 14 days for regular streamers, 60 days for partners. Clips can be deleted by streamers or removed for DMCA reasons at any time.

The three types of Twitch video

Downloading Twitch Clips

Clips are the easiest:

  1. Open the clip in your browser. URL example: clips.twitch.tv/AdroitColorfulRamenWow or twitch.tv/clip/AdroitColorfulRamenWow.
  2. Copy the URL.
  3. Go to savefast.cc, paste, click Download.
  4. Pick the available quality (usually 720p or 1080p).

Downloading VODs (full past broadcasts)

VODs are usually long-form (1-12 hours). Same process, but expect bigger files and longer processing:

  1. Open the VOD in your browser. URL like twitch.tv/videos/123456789.
  2. Copy the URL.
  3. Go to savefast.cc, paste, Download.
  4. Pick MP4 quality. For long VODs, consider 720p instead of 1080p to save storage — the file might be 3-5 GB instead of 8-10 GB.
  5. The download takes longer; let it complete.

Downloading Highlights

Highlight URLs look identical to VODs (both use twitch.tv/videos/...). The download flow is identical. Highlights are usually shorter than full VODs (often 5-30 minutes), so file sizes are more manageable.

Quality options

Twitch streams in:

  • Source (1080p60) — original streamer quality, available to partners and affiliates streaming high quality.
  • 1080p / 720p / 480p / 360p / 160p — adaptive tiers.
  • Audio-only — useful for podcast-style streams.

When downloading, pick the highest tier the original stream offered. If the streamer broadcasts at 720p, you can't download 1080p — it doesn't exist.

Audio only

For talk-show-style streams, music streams, or podcast-format content, the MP3 option extracts audio at original quality. Useful for very long VODs where the visual isn't important and you want a manageable file size.

Sub-only content

Some Twitch content (sub-only VODs, sub-only clips) is restricted to channel subscribers. SaveFast uses your browser's session — if you're subscribed and logged in in the same browser, you can download. If you're not, the content is blocked at the source.

Time-stamped sections of VODs

Twitch URLs can include a timestamp parameter (?t=1h23m45s at the end). When you paste a timestamped URL into SaveFast, it downloads the full VOD, not just the section after the timestamp. To extract a specific section, download the full VOD and trim with any video editor (or VLC's built-in trim).

The DMCA situation

Twitch has a complicated relationship with copyrighted music. Many streamers have had VODs muted, clipped, or deleted because copyrighted music played in the background. This creates urgency: if you want to save a particular VOD with music, do it soon, because Twitch's audio detection scans VODs continuously and mutes audio retroactively.
Download the original audio before it's muted — once Twitch mutes a VOD, the muted version is what's stored. SaveFast can only fetch what Twitch currently stores.

Common issues

"Video unavailable." VOD was deleted (auto-expired after 14/60 days), or clip was removed.
Audio is muted in segments. Twitch's DMCA scanner muted those sections. The download preserves the muted state.
"Subscriber-only content." You're not subscribed (or aren't logged in). Subscribe and try in a logged-in browser.
VOD takes very long to download. Long VODs are big. A 10-hour stream at 1080p is genuinely 10+ GB. Be patient or pick lower quality.
Clip plays but won't download. Some old clips use deprecated URL formats. Try going to the clip's page in the modern Twitch interface and copying the new URL.

Privacy and reuse

Downloading is invisible to Twitch and the streamer. View counts and follower analytics are unaffected.
For reuse: clipping and sharing Twitch content is part of Twitch's culture. The platform encourages it. Posting clips to YouTube, TikTok, or social media is normal — but credit the streamer (username, channel link) when you do. Monetizing someone else's stream content without permission is a fast path to copyright strikes.
For your own VODs and clips, you have full rights. Many streamers download their own VODs to YouTube for permanent archival — and SaveFast is the cleanest way to grab them.

Is downloading Twitch content legal?
