How to Download Pinterest Videos and GIFs
Pinterest is mostly known for static images, but its video pin format has grown rapidly — cooking demonstrations, DIY tutorials, recipe walkthroughs, fitness routines, fashion lookbooks. The platform actively recommends video pins, but offers no built-in way to save them as files. The bookmark and "Save to board" features just keep links inside Pinterest itself.
This guide covers how to grab Pinterest video pins as actual MP4 files (and GIFs as animated files) on any device, in about 30 seconds.
The fast version
- Open the pin you want, tap the three dots ⋯ → Copy link.
- Open SaveFast.cc in your browser.
- Paste the link, tap Download.
- Pick MP4 video or MP3 audio.
No Pinterest account needed for public pins. The rest of this guide covers details, mobile specifics, and a few Pinterest-specific quirks.
What types of pins can you download?
Pinterest has several content formats, all downloadable through the same flow:
- Video pins — short videos uploaded by creators, usually 15-60 seconds. The most common downloadable content.
- Idea pins — Pinterest's answer to Stories. Multi-page formats with photos, video, text overlays.
- GIFs and animated pins — short looping animations, technically MP4 files without audio.
- Static image pins — JPG/PNG, not the focus of this guide but downloadable too.
For each, the workflow is identical: copy pin URL, paste into SaveFast, pick format.
Downloading on Desktop
- Open the pin in your browser. The URL looks like
pinterest.com/pin/123456789/. - Click the URL bar, copy the link.
- Go to savefast.cc, paste, click Download.
- Pick MP4 quality.
- The file appears in your Downloads folder.
Downloading on iPhone
- In the Pinterest app, open the pin.
- Tap the three dots ⋯ above the pin → Copy link. (If you don't see "Copy link", tap Share → Copy link.)
- Open Safari → savefast.cc.
- Paste, Download, pick quality.
- Tap the Safari download icon (top-right) → Save to Files → On My iPhone.
- To move into Photos: open Files, find the video, Share → Save Video.
Downloading on Android
- In the Pinterest app, tap the three dots above the pin → Copy link.
- Open Chrome → savefast.cc.
- Paste, Download.
- The file goes to the Downloads folder.
Quality options
Pinterest's video pins are uploaded as vertical (9:16) or square (1:1) formats, typically at 1080p resolution. SaveFast offers all available tiers:
- 1080p MP4 — best quality.
- 720p MP4 — smaller file, same quality on phone screens.
- MP3 audio only — for voiceover-driven content (recipes, instructions).
File sizes are small — typically 3-10 MB for a 30-60 second video pin.
Pinterest's GIF format
Pinterest "GIFs" are short looping MP4 files without audio. They display like classic GIFs but are technically video files for efficiency.
When you download a Pinterest "GIF" through SaveFast, you get an MP4 by default. If you specifically need a .gif file:
- Download the MP4 first.
- Use any free MP4-to-GIF converter (search "mp4 to gif online" — there are dozens).
- The result is a true animated GIF.
Note that GIFs are much larger than MP4 for the same content — a 5-second MP4 might be 500 KB while the same content as GIF is 3-5 MB. Stick with MP4 unless you specifically need the GIF format.
Idea Pins — multi-slide format
Pinterest's Idea Pin format consists of multiple slides, each potentially containing video, image, or text. When you paste an Idea Pin's URL into SaveFast, you'll see the individual slides as separate downloadable items.
Download each slide separately. There's no "download whole Idea Pin" option because each slide is technically its own asset.
Audio extraction
Many Pinterest videos are valuable for the voiceover — recipe instructions, tutorials, beauty tips. To grab just the audio:
On the SaveFast results page, look for the MP3 option. Audio extracts directly from the video file at original bitrate.
Private boards
Pinterest has secret boards that only the owner and invited collaborators can see. Pins in secret boards can be viewed (and therefore downloaded) only if you have access to the board.
SaveFast doesn't bypass privacy — it uses the same access your browser has. If a pin is private to you, it's private everywhere.
Common issues
"Pin not found" error. The pin was deleted by the creator, or the board was made private. No recovery once content is removed.
Only low resolution available. The original was uploaded at low quality, or Pinterest hasn't processed higher tiers yet. For brand-new pins, sometimes the HD version is generated minutes after upload.
Video downloads as image. This happens if you pasted a static image pin's URL by mistake. Make sure you're on a video pin (it'll have a play button when you hover/view).
No download options for audio. Some Pinterest videos genuinely have no audio track (visual-only tutorials, GIFs). The MP3 option won't appear for those.
Pin link doesn't seem to work. Pinterest sometimes uses short URLs like pin.it/abc123. SaveFast handles those; if it fails, try opening the short URL in your browser first to get the full pinterest.com/pin/... URL.

Privacy and reuse
Downloading is invisible to Pinterest and to creators. No notifications, no analytics signal.
For reuse, Pinterest's culture is generally permissive — the platform's whole model is users saving and re-sharing content. But "saving to your board" inside Pinterest is different from "reposting elsewhere with my name on it." Credit creators when you use their content publicly.
For your own Pinterest pins, you have full rights. Many creators back up their published pins to local storage in case accounts get suspended.
Frequently asked questions
Is downloading Pinterest videos legal?
For personal use, generally yes. For commercial use or redistribution, follow normal copyright rules and credit creators.
Will Pinterest know I downloaded a pin?
No. Downloads happen outside Pinterest's tracking.
Can I download an entire board at once?
One pin at a time. There's no bulk-board-download feature on Pinterest's API or in any third-party tool.
Do I need a Pinterest account?
For public pins, no. For private/secret-board pins, yes — you need to be logged in and have access.
What about Pinterest Idea Pins with music?
If the music is licensed by Pinterest, it's usually baked into the video file and downloads correctly. If the licensing is restricted in some way, the audio might be silenced in the file.
Can I download Pinterest's high-resolution image versions?
Yes — see our Pinterest images guide for the full-res download workflow.
