How to Download SoundCloud Tracks to MP3
SoundCloud is where most independent musicians, beat producers, and underground DJs publish first. The platform's culture of remixes, beats, and emerging artists makes it irreplaceable for music discovery. SoundCloud offers downloads only when the artist explicitly enables the download button on a track — and most don't, by default.
This guide covers how to save SoundCloud tracks as MP3 files, with notes on the ethics of doing so and when to consider supporting artists differently.
The fast version
- Open the SoundCloud track in your browser.
- Copy the URL.
- Open SaveFast.cc, paste, click Download.
- Pick MP3.
Works on every device. The download is the full track.
A note on supporting artists
SoundCloud's culture is built around emerging artists. Many depend on play counts, follower numbers, and direct purchases to grow their careers. Downloading without engagement removes them from the platform's algorithm — they don't get the play credit, don't get the engagement signal.
For artists you love and listen to repeatedly:
- Follow them on SoundCloud — costs you nothing, helps their visibility.
- Like and repost tracks — boosts the algorithm.
- Check if they have Bandcamp — most independent musicians use both, and Bandcamp purchases pay them properly (see our Bandcamp guide).
- Tip via SoundCloud's tipping feature, Patreon, Ko-fi, or PayPal — direct support matters.
Downloading is fine for personal offline listening. But if you build a 500-track local library and never engage with the artists on the platform, you're free-riding on their work.
Downloading on Desktop
- Open the track on soundcloud.com. URLs look like
soundcloud.com/artist/track-name. - Copy the URL.
- Go to savefast.cc, paste, click Download.
- Pick MP3.
- File saves to Downloads.
Downloading on Mobile
iPhone: In the SoundCloud app, tap the share icon on the track → Copy link. Open Safari → SaveFast → paste → download. Save to Files.
Android: Same flow in Chrome. The MP3 saves to Downloads, playable in any audio app.
Quality available
SoundCloud's audio quality depends on the upload:
- Free uploads — typically 128 kbps MP3.
- Pro uploads — up to 256 kbps MP3, with some artists uploading lossless that gets transcoded for streaming.
- "Go+" subscriber-only tracks — some labels gate higher-quality streams behind paid subscription.
When you download, you get whatever quality SoundCloud streams. For most music this is 128-256 kbps MP3 — fine for casual listening, not audiophile quality.
For archival of music you really care about, Bandcamp purchases give you lossless FLAC. Use SoundCloud for discovery, Bandcamp for keeping.
Sets and playlists
SoundCloud's "sets" are essentially playlists with multiple tracks. Each track downloads separately — paste the individual track URL, not the set URL.
For entire sets of related tracks, you'll need to download each one in turn. SaveFast doesn't bulk-download sets.
Artist downloads (when artist enabled it)
When an artist clicks "Allow free downloads" on their track, SoundCloud shows a download button below the player. This is the artist's explicit invitation — use this when available. SaveFast isn't needed for these tracks.
For tracks without the download button (artist didn't enable it), SaveFast works but you're technically going around the artist's choice. Consider whether the track is something you'd buy on Bandcamp or stream on the platform.
Private tracks
SoundCloud lets artists upload private tracks (shared via secret URL with collaborators or reviewers). These have URLs with a hash like soundcloud.com/artist/track/s-abc123def.
If you have the secret URL, SaveFast can download. If not, the track isn't accessible.
Common issues
"Track not available in your region." Some SoundCloud content has geographic licensing restrictions. VPN bypasses.
"This track requires SoundCloud Go+." Paid-tier streams aren't downloadable without subscription. SaveFast can't bypass paid gates.
"Track removed." Artist deleted, or SoundCloud's audio recognition removed it for copyright. Once removed, irretrievable.
Low audio quality. The track was uploaded at low bitrate. SoundCloud doesn't upscale.
Audio is interrupted with ads. Some SoundCloud streams insert ads for non-paying listeners. SaveFast downloads the clean track without ads in most cases — when ads are baked into the stream, they sometimes leak through.
Privacy and reuse
Downloads are invisible to SoundCloud's analytics. Play counts are unaffected — meaning the artist doesn't get the play credit.
This is why engaging on the platform (likes, reposts, follows) matters: it's how artists are noticed by SoundCloud's algorithm and labels.
For commercial use of downloaded tracks (in videos, podcasts, etc.), licensing through the artist is essential. Many SoundCloud artists are pseudonymous and can be reached via DM; some explicitly state usage rights in their bio.
Frequently asked questions
Is downloading SoundCloud tracks legal?
Gray area. The artist controls whether their tracks are downloadable on the platform. SaveFast can bypass the artist's choice. For personal use, enforcement is minimal. For commercial use, you definitely need permission.
Will the artist know I downloaded?
No. Downloads bypass SoundCloud's tracking.
What about SoundCloud's official offline mode?
SoundCloud Go+ subscribers can download tracks for offline listening within the SoundCloud app — but those files are encrypted and only playable in the app. Real MP3 files come from SaveFast or direct purchase.
Can I download from private SoundCloud links?
If you have the URL, yes. The secret link is itself the access token.
Why are some tracks higher quality than others?
Depends on what the artist uploaded. SoundCloud doesn't generate higher quality than the source.
Can I support an artist after downloading?
Yes — follow them on SoundCloud, check Bandcamp for buying their work, support via Patreon if they have one. Many independent artists genuinely depend on this.
