YouTube playlists hold some of the most useful content on the platform — full courses, music collections, podcast archives, tutorial series, conference talks. Downloading them one-by-one is tedious. YouTube Premium offers offline access through the app, but the files stay locked inside YouTube — you can't transfer them, use them in audio editors, or back them up properly.
This guide covers how to download entire YouTube playlists as real MP4 or MP3 files.

The fast version

  1. Open the YouTube playlist page (not an individual video — the playlist URL).
  2. Copy the playlist URL.
  3. Open SaveFast.cc, paste, click Download.
  4. SaveFast detects all videos in the playlist and offers download for each.
  5. Pick format (MP4 or MP3) for each video and download.

Getting the playlist URL (not the video URL)

This is the most common point of confusion. A YouTube playlist URL looks like:

youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrAXtmRdnEQy4Qe8mPGfqKy_LQ1mZx9c2

Not:

youtube.com/watch?v=abc123&list=PLrAXtmRdnEQy4Qe8mPGfqKy_LQ1mZx9c2

The second URL is a video that's part of a playlist — SaveFast will download just that one video.
To get the playlist URL:

  1. Click into the playlist's main page (usually a link like "View full playlist" under any video).
  2. The URL bar shows the ?list= URL without watch?v=.
  3. Copy that.

Alternatively, on YouTube's web interface, find the playlist in the sidebar of any video and click the playlist title.

Downloading on Desktop

  1. Open the YouTube playlist page in your browser.
  2. Copy the URL.
  3. Go to savefast.cc, paste, click Download.
  4. SaveFast shows the list of videos in the playlist.
  5. For each video, pick MP4 quality or MP3 audio.
  6. Click download for each. Files save to Downloads.

Downloading a 50-video playlist takes time — both yours (clicking through) and the system's (each video downloads sequentially or with some parallelism depending on your browser).

Tips for large playlists

Start with what you actually need. A 200-video playlist of mixed quality usually has 10-30 videos you actually want. Skim the titles in SaveFast's results, pick the relevant ones.
MP3 for music or talk. For music playlists, course audio, or podcasts: MP3 cuts file sizes by 10x. A 50-video music playlist as MP3 might be 500 MB; as MP4 it could be 5 GB.
720p instead of 1080p for long videos. For 1-hour+ content, 720p saves significant storage while looking fine on phone/laptop screens.
Organize before you download. Create a folder structure first. Put downloads from one playlist in their own folder so they don't clutter your general Downloads.

Downloading on Mobile

Same flow on iPhone (Safari) or Android (Chrome). For large playlists, desktop is usually easier — you can see all videos at once and pick more efficiently.

Quality and bitrate notes

When downloading a whole playlist, picking the same quality tier for every video keeps your library consistent. If some videos in the playlist are uploaded in 4K and others in 720p, you'll see mixed options — pick the highest each supports.
MP3 from a playlist works similarly: the highest available bitrate for each. Most YouTube audio is 128-192 kbps; music-tagged uploads are sometimes 256 kbps.

Playlists that change over time

Creators sometimes add/remove videos from playlists. If you want to keep an archive of a specific state, download what's there now. Re-running SaveFast on the same URL later will reflect whatever the playlist looks like at that future moment.
For your own playlists, this is also a backup strategy — you may delete videos from your playlist someday but want to keep what's currently there.

Private playlists

Private YouTube playlists are only accessible to logged-in users with access. SaveFast uses your browser's session — if you can view the playlist, you can download its videos.
Unlisted playlists (semi-private — accessible to anyone with the URL) work without login.

Hidden / region-locked videos in playlists

Some playlists contain videos that are private, region-locked, or deleted. SaveFast skips those — you'll see fewer downloadable items than the total playlist count.
For deleted videos, the content is genuinely gone; no recovery possible.

Common issues

"Playlist not found." Wrong URL (probably a video URL with list parameter, not a true playlist URL).
Some videos missing from download list. They're private, deleted, or region-locked from your IP. Bypass region locks with VPN if needed.
Browser crashes on huge playlists. 500+ video playlists can overwhelm browser memory. Split into chunks if possible — most very long playlists have natural sections you can target.
Inconsistent quality across playlist. Each video was uploaded separately — different sources, different quality. Pick highest available per video.

Privacy and use

Downloads invisible to YouTube's analytics. Creator view counts are unaffected.
For educational courses (university lectures, online courses), saving for personal study is broadly accepted. Reposting full course playlists elsewhere is a copyright issue.
For music playlists especially, consider whether the artists would prefer streaming for their royalties. See our Bandcamp guide for artist-friendly alternatives.

Frequently asked questions

Is downloading YouTube playlists legal?
For personal use, generally yes. For redistribution, follow copyright.
Will YouTube notify the playlist creator?
No.
Can I download all videos at once with one click?
SaveFast requires picking format per video. Some specialized YouTube downloaders bulk-process, but flexibility is usually worth the extra clicks.
What if the playlist is too long?
For playlists with 100+ videos, focus on what you actually need. Storage and time considerations matter.
Can I download a YouTube channel like a playlist?
Not directly — channels don't have a single "all videos" URL. Find the channel's playlists and download those one by one.
Will the playlist's order be preserved?
File names don't auto-number, but SaveFast shows playlist order. You can rename files with the order number as a prefix to preserve sequence.
