Imgur is one of the internet's oldest image-and-video hosts — born as Reddit's preferred upload destination, grown into a meme aggregator and image-sharing platform. The platform offers direct "Save" for images, but videos and GIFs are trickier to download properly, especially in original quality with audio.

Why videos need a downloader

Imgur's right-click "Save video as" often gives you a video with no audio, or a low-quality version, or a .gifv file your operating system doesn't know how to open. The platform stores videos as multiple separate streams (different qualities, audio separately) that the player combines on the fly.

Imgur's "GIFs" are actually MP4 files (with the .gifv extension to signal animation). When you download:

  • For most posts: you get a clean MP4. Smaller file than real GIF, plays everywhere.
  • For posts labeled as actual .gif: you get the original animated GIF file.

If you need a true .gif file from an MP4 source, use any free MP4-to-GIF converter after downloading.

Albums

Imgur albums can have dozens of images and videos. SaveFast shows all items when you paste an album URL — pick which to download.

Audio extraction
